How Much Is Janis Joplin’s Childhood Home Worth?

Janis Joplin’s modest childhood home in the gritty oil refinery city of Port Arthur, Texas is for sale at a whopping $500,000. The 1300 square-foot house with a small porch is selling for about 10 times higher than the asking price for other homes in the area. Current owners of the home, which is about 90 miles east of Houston, have had to grow hedges around the perimeter of the property to prevent fans and gawkers from peering in through the windows. Realtor Diane Fernandez says that the current owners have people stopping by from around the world. One person even offered $2,000 just to sleep on Joplin’s bedroom floor.
