Affectionately known to her closest friends as Pearl, the short and electrifying career of singer Janis Joplin (1943-1970) is chronicled by documentary filmmaker Howard Alk, incorporating family photos, interviews and classic concert clips, to create an honest portrait of the dynamic, self-destructive R&B singer who left behind a legacy of high energy performances and soulful music.
